The President of Gun Control Australia John Crook says authorities must clamp down on the firearms black market in Victoria, and ban gun shops from selling hand guns. "If the government does decide to allow pistol clubs, then those guns should only be available from specially selected police stations," he said.

Finland to tighten gun laws

Finland has some of the most relaxed gun laws in the world but they could be about to get tougher. People there have more guns, per person, than in most other countries. The government is now hoping that new legislation will halve the number of weapons licenses which are issued.

When 8-year-old Liquarry Jefferson was shot and killed by his 7-year-old cousin, Mayor Tom Menino went to their Dorchester home and “offered support to both families,” as he told the press. And why wouldn’t he? He certainly didn’t think it was the mother’s fault that the two boys and Liquarry’s 2-year-old half-sister were upstairs playing with a pistol - unattended - at 11 p.m. Instead, Menino claimed the National Rifle Association was partially to blame. “Why is that gun in the house?” Menino asked. Because the NRA opposed tougher gun control laws, that’s why, he concluded.

Colorado: El Paso county Right-to-Carry permit fees reduced

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce a reduction in the cost of obtaining a concealed handgun permit. The new fees associated with obtaining a concealed handgun permit are $60.00 for a new 5 year permit and $40.00 for a 5 year renewal. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation's associated fee for fingerprint and background check is $52.50 for a new permit and 13.00 for a renewal.

Fortunately, however, store owners in Dothan, Ala. say the shortage is mostly over and it is safe for hunters and other gun enthusiasts to buy their weapons and ammunition of choice.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will impose a nationwide gun ban for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October, a ranking police official said Thursday. PNP spokesman Sr. Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the 130,000 strong police organization is mandated by law to enforce the ban of firearms during election period.

San Francisco supervisor's effort targets ammunition

In taking aim at gun control in The City, one supervisor is looking into creating an ammunition registry that would make it easier to trace bullets bought and sold locally. Supervisor Michela Alioto Pier said she's working with the City Attorney's Office to craft legislation that would essentially expand on state law that monitors handgun ammunition.
