The Town of Midway is considering an ordinance that would add firearm restrictions within the town's boundaries. Residential feedback on a possible firearm ordinance in Midway could determine whether the town council decides to strengthen its gun laws. The town currently operates under the Davidson County firearm laws.

By almost a 4 to 1 ratio, Canadians don't believe that the Canadian Firearms Registry has been a success. The Canadian Firearms Registry, also known as the long gun registry, requires the registration of all non restricted firearms in Canada. Two in five Canadians (43%) believe the registry has been unsuccessful in preventing crime in Canada, while three in ten (29%) think it has had no effect on crime. Only 13 per cent of respondents believe the Canadian Firearms Registry has been successful.

Mayor Richard M. Daley has long insisted that the city`s restrictive gun laws including the handgun ban that was essentially nullified recently by the United States Supreme Court have been a key crime fighting tool. But court records show that relatively few people were convicted of violating the laws, and even top city officials have questioned how useful they are in deterring crime.

Canada's police chiefs are conducting a full court press to preserve the long gun registry, the dismantling of which could begin with a vote in Parliament next month. At their annual meeting here in Edmonton last Monday, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) insisted the registry was an invaluable police investigation tool and voted unanimously to recommend its preservation. In doing so, they trotted out the usual canard about how police access the registry 11,000 times a day. No, they don't ... at least they don't do so knowingly or deliberately.

Responding to a grassroots outcry from gun owners, the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and other radical groups that had sought to ban the use of lead in ammunition.

Gun enthusiasts say Davis County commissioners overstepped their bounds this week by enacting a ban on the discharge of firearms on its now populous east bench. "They chose to do something they don't have the authority to do. Handguns and cigarettes were two hot topics addressed by the Flint City Council on Monday. A split city council voted 7 2 to change a local ordinance so the city law on the carrying of firearms doesn't conflict with the state's open carry law, which allows people to openly carry a handgun in public.
